My clients are high achieving people who are used to mastering most things quickly and being good at what they do.
When they are in the midst of transitions, personally or organizationally, they are often surprised by two things:
- How long it takes
- How uncomfortable it feels
May this be a message of encouragement to you on both fronts.
First, it takes time to adjust to new seasons. We wade into them more slowly than we expect. We also expect to put them behind us, but in real life, in-between times are all the time. We experience multiple adjustments at once, and it’s all a bit messy.
Most of us don’t love this, because those in-between times don’t feel great. Our emotions are all over the place — excited about possibilities, frustrated by a lack of clarity, grieving endings, embarrassed by feeling like such a rookie…it’s a lot.
Today I simply wanted to remind you that if it feels like you’re taking a while to move through something, and it’s making you feel untethered, you’re not doing it wrong or handling it badly. What you’re experiencing is what it’s like.
More over the next few weeks on how to ease that discomfort. But for now, may you sit with it with greater ease, knowing it’s normal for in-between to feel very in-between.
