Ripe Raspberries

“There are no ripe raspberries there.”

“Approach the raspberry patch from the other direction and see if anything shows up.”

“Look at all the ripe raspberries!”

This was how a conversation unfolded on vacation last week with my five-year-old granddaughter, Tatum, as we peered into the bushes at the side of the road near our cottage. Walking one way down the road, we couldn’t see any raspberries. Coming from the other direction, there were dozens on the very same plant.

Sit with it a minute. It’s powerful.

In Derek Sivers’ book How to Live, he argues that our problems are most often beliefs that are bothering us. Change the belief, and the problem is solved.

I suspect we all have areas of our lives where we believe there are “no ripe raspberries there.” What happens if you approach it from another direction? Our openness to seeing the same raspberry patch in a new way is what makes the raspberries visible.
