Masterclass: Engaging the Tired and Distracted
Effective public participation design and facilitation is dependent on real people engaging in real time, against the backdrop of real life. This candid, practical session provides road-tested tips for building effective engagement with people who are exhausted, distracted, irritable or entrenched. This session will expand your toolbox and a create a more flexible mindset to channel their attention productively.
Following this session, participants will be able to:
- Build empathy for participants in public engagement processes who appear to be too distracted, exhausted and/or belligerent to participate effectively.
- Draw appropriately on a more extensive inventory of public participation design and facilitation tools to respond to difficult or unexpected behaviours in real-time.
- Manage their personal state and mindset more effectively as a result of understanding how to strengthen their “adaptability quotient.”
This workshop is available in a three-hour format.
