One of the lessons that emerged from our winter session at Heartwood Cidery in our series on Seasons of Transformation is the idea that being dead, dormant or stuck can all look the same, but our next step requires correctly diagnosing which state we’re in. This idea has made itself at home in my head ever since.
So, I appreciated Gwyn Wansbrough’s recent recommendation of Adam Alter’s Anatomy of a Breakthrough. He describes the book as a “strategic guide in the war against stuckness.”
It’s full of good stuff, but two related reminders struck me as worth emphasizing if you’re facing that challenge:
- When something’s hard, we tend to think we’re doing it wrong.
- Getting unstuck always takes longer than we think.
Can you relate?
If you are prone to expecting transitions to be easier or quicker than they actually are, I hope these insights are encouraging to you. They might help you reset your mindset — which is the main battleground for getting unstuck.
Take a breath. You’ve got this!
We’ll be talking more about Anatomy of a Breakthrough in Wiser by Choice this Friday — along with several other related titles. It’s an hour long and free — why not hop on if you’d be interested in digging a bit deeper?
